Kids in my Auto Tech class. I can't.

No the GNX wasn't Supercharged and Turbocharged.

V8 are better than V6s. Especially the LT family of motors.

The Charger Hellcat isn't Turbocharged.

The Avenger isn't better looking than the Charger. And it certainly isn't faster.

That Juke that out-dragged a Veyron was not in the slightest stock. It's got GT-R drivetrain under it.

V8s can be smaller displacement than V6s. Just because GM makes a 4.3L V6 doesn't mean Audi can't make a 4.2L V8.

Yes you can tune a V6 to make V8 power levels, but you can also tune a V8 to make WAY more than that.

No, your $1,200 Bonneville SE shitcan won't keep up with even a 4-cylinder Malibu. And it CERTAINLY doesn't do 0-60 in 6-second. Especially now that you blew the motor.

I'm about 99% sure the 2003 Discovery wasn't built in America.

No shit a V6 car is going to (usually) beat a V8 truck. How about you compare two similar things?

I sat there listening to this bullshit trying not to yell at them all. How can people wanting to go into working on cars professionally think all this!? I wanted to bash my head in on the desk.

At this point I would show you the E38 on M-Parallels I saw, but my phone is being an ass and won't let me email the picture to myself. So here's the next best thing.

Kinja'd!!!

It was identical to this one.

Things I have heard: new Land Rover is basically an Explorer. Um, no.

Your class, though - it seems like you have V6 supremacists or something? That's f'ing weird, man. They cannot into second order vibrations.

I swear if it's a V8 R8 I might start throwing things.

That E38 was parked out front of the other Auto Tech shop, waiting to be worked on. I was so envious compared to the Camry LE parked out front of ours waiting to be worked on (AGAIN)

Here, have a club to beat them with:

Kinja'd!!!

Cossie DFV-DFY series. 3 liter, *V8*, NATURALLY ASPIRATED, up to 510hp sustainable through long races, and developed first nearly FIFTY FUCKING YEARS AGO. Not to mention with all accessories, lighter than more than one turbo four, and smaller than many in whole package.

good. If they really wanted to get these kids vetted out they would put them in front of something with a carb and a set of points. Got to start from the basics instead of - of the computer tells me this, so I need to do A or B to fix it.

If we are comparing V6 Avenger and Charger's, believe it or not, the Avenger is literally a millisecond quicker to 60. Still would rather have the Charger. By the V6 size logic, any GM V8 under 5.8 liters, doesn't exist.

I'm sure you've pointed out to them that without redesign help, it had NVH right up the rectum, yes? And that pushing power past a certain point is, for that reason, setting a time bomb? And that the larger the accelerating mass in the cylinder and the more limited the swirl and combustion time due to displacement, the lower the efficiency at very high Rs? That a 4l+ V6 is intrinsically worse for high Rs in probably 5 different ways than a 4l+ V8?

haha this sounds like the vo-tech when I was in High School. I was able to arrange a special deal so that I could take drafting and not be int he vo-tech (which shared the same building) the other kids had a contest to see who could take a hard er hit to the sack. I'm not really sure whos the winner there, maybe the people watching? There was another kid who owed someone money and for a dollar you could punch him in the face. This ended when someone exploded his nose.

Oh, well then no. The Avenger would lose. Depending on the driver of course. So does this mean that the Bugatti 8.0 W16 doesn't exist because GM built an 8.1 V8?

I use to work at Autozone and a younger guy came in with his girlfriend asking for some carburetor cleaner because apparently his 2014 camaro's carburetor was acting weird. He was just name dropping parts that completely did not have anything to do with his car trying to impress his gf I guess? I told him that I was sure his 2014 vehicle didn't have a carburetor but he was stubborn and still ended up buying it...

Our generation was the last to get that experience or instruction in school. All the kids I've seen come out of tech colleges now only seem to know how to read codes & replace parts. No analytical skills whatsoever. While the old stuff is obsolete, it taught you to think critically & work a problem because you couldn't plug & play shit. What sucks is that many HS vocational programs are dead or dying, even my old one, which was a multiple national AAA Skills contest winner.

it is a truly sad state of affairs. The next time I see some young tech with a long metal rod or screwdriver up to their ear poking around trying to find the source of an errant noise I might give them a hug. Whether or not I can plug my computer in to tell the issue or not, it is critical knowledge.

Ok so my computer says this sensor is bad. Now how do you test it with a multimeter or an oscilloscope to see if that REALLY is the issue, and not a bad wire before you start throwing parts at it. Ugh this is one of my never ending rants. I don't shun the new technology at all, I just think there is a firm inherent or taught knowledge base that has to be there before you even go under the hood of anything, much less call yourself a technician of any sort

My roommate was in auto tech and claims to be a car guy* (binge watches Top Gear after all). However when I mentioned that the Hellcats were out for delivery he looked at me and said, "What's that?" Really... Then he went on and said that Corvettes and Mustangs were better. He is one of THOSE car guys*.

He mentioned that all auto tech taught him was how to do paper work. He is now in computer science, I think he likes it better.

*I don't want to sound like an ass, but if you claim to be a car guy and I mention the Hellcats, the Chevy SS, the Colorado, the new GT350 (I was surprised he missed that), or anything else that isn't a Mustang and you have no idea what I am talking about, yeah...

People who don't know a thing about cars are pretty bearable. Sometimes, enjoyable.

People who know about cars but keep quiet until you chat with them. Enjoyable

People who try to know about cars and aren't annoying about it. Enjoyable.

People who do not know a thing about cars, but feel as if they do. NO
